“Life’s like a play: it’s not the length, but the excellence of the acting that matters.” – Seneca
Acceptance that life is unfair is the beginning of wisdom. Acceptance in this case doesn’t mean resignation or just given up on something but it means understanding that something is what it is and that there’s go to be a way through it. The Serenity prayer clearly states this, “God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change.” This is true wisdom and if missed, long suffering follows. This acceptance, however, is from the place of strength not weakness or helplessness.
There’s your truth, other people’s truth and real truth. The real truth shall set you free. Acceptance is like a pendulum, one end is empowering while the other is disempowering. The empowering end creates inventors – someone accepted that as humans we are aerodynamically incapable of flying – hence the invention of the airplane. Someone accepted that you cannot have a conversation with someone so far away from you – hence the invention of the telephone. Someone accepted that the night time comes and predictably so – hence the invention of the electric globe. Someone accepted that as humans, we could only run so much fast – hence the invention of the automobile. These and many other examples came from the power of acceptance that things are the way they are and then saying, ‘there’s got to be a way through this!’ Not resignation and forever complaining about it.
Acceptance from the place of helplessness creates victimhood – just accepting something unfavourable to you and instead forever complaining about it, blame and criticize external factors for it . When you are in this place, you don’t think nor believe that there’s a way out. To this person, this is just the way it is, period! If you can’t beat them, join them! That’s the mantra. This renders your power USELESS!
Remember, not knowing you have the power is as good as not having it. The undeniable truth is that you have the power to influence the circumstances in your life because you are beautifully created to create, so create!
