“Each time we face our fear, we gain strength, courage, and confidence in the doing.” – Theodore Roosevelt
Self-confidence is the most attractive quality a person can have. Just think about it, how can anyone see how great you are if you can’t see it yourself? Don’t live down to expectations, go out there and do something remarkable!
As a professional speaker, life and business coach, author, entrepreneur, newspaper columnist and blogger, I’m often asked as to how I became this confident and I thought I should share these important steps with you that will help you build yours too.
Step 1: Think about what you can invest your time and energy into.
Thinking is a process where you generate different ideas. To think better, you need to ask better questions. Questions like:
– What can I do to improve my current situation? – write down different ideas that come to mind without qualifying them.
– How can this idea help me improve my situation? Be specific
– What skills do I need to make it happen? Write them down
You need to be in a quiet place that will allow you to think and write your answers down on your ‘Thinking Note Book’ where you capture all your important ideas.
Step 2: Decide from the list of generated ideas above and choose one.
Decision-making is very critical. Whatever option you choose, stick to it until the end. The mantra/affirmation I use especially when I start a new project/goal is, “Whatever I start, I finish!” I say these words repeatedly, especially when doubt creeps in.
Step 3: Put a plan together.
A plan will help you get structured: It answers questions like:
– What you will do.
– How you will do it.
– Why you’ll do it.
– When you will do it – with start and finish dates.
– What resources you’ll need to accomplish this goal.
Step 4: Start – Massive Action.
We all have fears and doubts and the only way to deal with them is by having a proper plan in place and taking massive action. Starting is magical.
Step 5: Progress.
Progressing is a sure sign that you’re moving forward, however little. This injects you with energy and confidence. The more you see small amounts of progress, the more confident you become, it’s a sign that you are in control. Now, this confidence and energy will surely keep you going and increase the pace and intensity.
Step 6: Achieving/Completion.
This is the final step in the process. The most important part of success is the person you become along the journey, not just rushing to completion and miss out on some important insights and beautiful views along the way.
This is how you build confidence. Confidence comes when you know you have a plan, process and a system to follow and taking massive action towards your goal. I wish you well!
