“Books and doors are the same thing. You open them, and you go through into another world” – Jeanette Winterson
I have personally learnt to go beyond just reading books. I’ve adopted studying books instead. I chose to get out of the race of “how many books have you read last year?” Or “How many books do you read per month?”
I have leant that to acquire a habit of reading is to construct for yourself a refuge from almost all the miseries of life. My high school teacher once said to me, ‘when you open the book, you open the world and these words got stuck in my mind.
I realized that it matters very little as to how many books you have actually read if nothing ever gets implemented. Since this approach, I’ve become more skilful and have seen and felt changes in my life. It’s so easy and tempting to get swallowed up in the race of being book smart without tangible results to show for your theoretical knowledge which remains untested.
So, how do I study the book, you may ask? Now, I take about three months or more just on one book. I get an amazing idea from the book and I stop reading it, put it away and implement the idea. Once I am comfortable that the habit is installed, I carry on reading the book for other life changing ideas and continue doing the same thing of stopping and implementing if I find another awesome idea. The second thing I do is to re-read the same book once again after finishing it the first time, you’ll be amazed at how much you can pick up again on your second read. This approach will revolutionize your life, trust me!
I thought I should share this wonderful finding which yields awesome results. You are unique in your own special way and refuse to settle for the crumbs of life!
