Pause and Smell the Fresh Roses!

“Nothing ever goes away until it teaches us what we need to know.” – Pema Chodron
Most of us are forever complaining about not getting what we want and yet we are not willing to embrace the challenges that are covering what we want. I have grown to see life more as a prickly pear. A prickly pear is a fruit that is so delicious inside but vicious on the outside, it has a thorny skin and cannot just be handled with bare hands. This fruit, I must say, has a number of health benefits if eaten. The benefits include its ability to lower cholesterol, improve digestion, boost immunity, prevent cancer, aid in weight loss, and treats arthritis.
Most people, however, never bother trying this fruit out simply because of its thorny skin and ‘difficulty’ to get to its inside. It needs time, special skills and tools to remove the thorny skin before one can enjoy its delicious inside which results in a number of health benefits. We lose out on such a number of benefits this fruit has just because we don’t have the time (five minutes) and energy to waste. This is being penny wise and pound foolish indeed. Develop the skills and you will enjoy the benefits and that’s how life goes.
We are so fortunate that we are not like other creatures, especially geese. Geese are the birds that fly very long distances in a V-formation. These birds operate with an instinct. You see, in winter they fly South, because of the warm temperatures there. If South were to be unfavourable and deadly one winter and they were advised to fly East instead to save their lives, they would just laugh at the advisor and say, “We are flying South, no matter what,” and sadly, they would all die.
As human beings, we have intelligence over all other creatures. This intelligence is to develop ourselves and understand that no pain no gain.  This intelligence is something that is developed like any other muscle. If the last five years didn’t yield desired results, you can change how you live your next five years, unlike these birds that are driven by instincts, we should wisely use our intelligence not just follow the crowd and keep on whining and complaining.
Identify what would be the best version of you, develop yourself every day towards it and get professional coaching to see what you cannot see for yourself. This, will make you a model citizen and a true example of how life should be lived and save the world. You have special talents and gifts waiting to be developed and unleashed, so, develop them right away!
