“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts.” – Calvin Coolidge
Persistence is more than a buzz word, it’s a way of life. Everyone who has experienced a form of success knows that it never comes easy. One essential trait that all successful people share is that they’re persistent. Persistence, is the trait that most exemplifies the difference between successful and unsuccessful people.
Persistence will get you farther in life than any talent or smarts. You may be smart, and you may be talented, but if you are not persistent at achieving goals, you will go nowhere. Lots of people are talented and smart but don’t get recognized for it. It takes a lotmore than just being talented or smart to get anywhere in life. You must push boundaries and persist.
Persistence is a necessary ingredient to success. Persistence has to be included with vision, purpose, some talent, and the ability to take constructive criticism. I may cringe when I read/hear criticism of my work, but I always go back over that information later and try to figure out how to put it to work for me. I’ve been in situations where some people have refused to change even a thing or two of their work at the coach/mentor’s direction. That kind of blind persistence doesn’t work. Open-minded persistence is just part of the combination of success where you are open to learning, changing, and growing. It doesn’t mean to keep doing the same thing over and over while hoping for different results.
Genius going unrewarded has been unfailingly true for so long. Coolidge also talks about the fact that the world is full of educated derelicts. It seems the most intelligent people are those, who act intelligently — not those who study (book-smarts), yet fail to do anything with what they know. Persistence, open-minded one I must clarify, will get you further in life.
