“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”– Rumi, philosopher
I truly believe that every single one of us has genius within us. I believe that every single one of us has brilliance within us that is longing and screaming to see the light of day. Our main responsibility in this life is to bring out our genius and brilliance that was planted in us long before we were born.
Researchers have found that genius is so much less about your genetics and so much more about your daily habits. One of my favourite eminent psychologist James Flynn coined the term CAPITALISATION after his research. He found that the best entrepreneurs, footballers, boxers, painters, hip-hop artists are not the most gifted in the room. These individuals just exploit whatever talent they have more than their peers in their industry. I am certain that you have heard of the book entitled Talent is Overrated by Geoff Colvin in which he outlined what really separates world-class performers from everybody else. This is a superb book about what one precisely needs to excel. This book is not just a dry academic book, it is really alive. You really need to put deliberate practice, not just any kind of practice but the right kind of practice to excel in your craft. This proves once again that excellence is all about the choices we make.
We all have the opportunity to be the best in the world at our crafts. The question, however, is whether you are willing to properly and correctly structure your life. Whether you are willing to install the right mind-sets and daily habits to bring on your A-game for the benefit of your life and the world. One of the main reasons why most people never bring on their A-game is:
- Their FEAR of losing is larger than their FAITH (EXCITEMENT) OF WINNING. As human beings, we are created for comfort. There’s a tendency of a body to seek and maintain a condition of balance or equilibrium within its internal environment, even when faced with external changes. This is called homoeostasis. This ensures that the body temperature is maintained at around 37degC, heart beat at 72 beats per minute and that the blood pressure is within a small bandwidth. So, a comfort zone is created here. That explains why most people talk about big dreams and ideas and never fulfil them. These ideas and dreams are outside of your comfort zone. So, a slight change in these parameters causes a lot of panic in the system resulting in stress, sweaty palms and anxiety, etc. The most important thing to understand and remember always is that your greatness lives outside your comfort zone. Top achievers have deliberately practised walking into their fears and are living on the razor edge consistently. This means that you have to press on and keep on pressing on.
The only way to build your faith is to do what you are frightened to do and do it again and again and again until it becomes your new comfort zone. The world has long been waiting for your greatness, take it out now!
