Your Action Expresses Your Priorities!

“You can never get lost if you don’t know where you are going.”– Veli Ndaba – ‘The Engineered Mind- to WIN
Success is one subject that has been so exhaustively studied and has revealed few things that I would like to share with you. One major difference in people that are successful and those that are not in almost everything is priorities. Priorities are a reflection of what a person values most in their lives. Sadly, most people let things that matter most be at the mercy of things which matter least, as a result of wrong priorities. This means that most people are lost in the ‘busyness’ of life.
Most people ask me, “Veli, how did you change the direction of your life around in such a short space of time?” My answer is that I firstly studied myself, learned more about my strengths, my abilities and things that really excited me when I did them. I then asked myself as to how I could grow and use those strengths and abilities to make a positive impact in the world. So, in short, I had to find my purpose in life. This process involved writing down things I felt excited about, asking myself questions about the person I wanted to be five years later. Unfortunately, most people only come across this question in an interview and that’s it. I wrote down my past successes and what I enjoyed most while doing those things that become successful. I also started observing more of what people complemented me on and further asking them to unpack those complements for me and also solicit feedback from other people which is a continuous process.
When you have gone through this deliberate process of self-discovery like I did, you will be so amazed at how you will begin to see things differently. Your priority list will change completely. The only difference between you and me is our priority lists. Priorities determine where you focus most of your time and the intensity in doing so. Your priorities are therefore linked to your values and purpose. If you don’t have a clearly defined purpose, your values will be challenged and end up prioritizing things inappropriately. So, discovering what makes you tick is a process and unfortunately no one can do it for you but yourself. Your priorities are not what you say they are, they are revealed by how you live, so check how you live and the answers are right there.
Harley Davidson said, “When writing the story of your life, don’t let anyone else hold the pen.” This quote hit me right between my eyes and I woke up and grabbed my pen from the then author of my life and started writing my story myself.
